Citizen Service Award

Today, Bob Szymkiewicz, a long time resident of First Ward was recognized by CMPD for his work in the community. Chief Kerr Putney recognized Bob and many other residents of the city in a ceremony that took place at the Police and Fire Training Academy.

Narrative: Bob Szymkiewicz has lived in the First Ward Community for more than twenty years.  From the moment he became a resident, he has been the consummate community leader.  He created the First Ward Community Fund, which raises money for educational, cultural, and charitable endeavors for First Ward residents.  Scholarships to summer camps and an annual children’s holiday party are top priorities.  He has included CMPD in almost all activities, including National Night Out, Back to School Backpacks, and neighborhood movie nights.  He mentors neighborhood children and makes a significant impact on their lives.  His dedication and contributions have allowed many children to experience inclusion and a sense of community.
