CAT 5, the Mecklenburg County Senior Women’s Softball Champs, will compete for Gold while using the opportunity to raise awareness and funds for the fight against cancer.
The First Ward Community Fund donates $2.00 for every run scored by the ladies this season, through the end of the Tournament, to benefit Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C), a program of the Entertainment Industry Foundation, a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization. So far, the team has slugged for $162 toward its goal of $1,250. The team is also selling $5.00 pink bracelets, with all proceeds going toward SU2C’s accelerated cancer research programs and the fight against cancer.

Team organizer and First Ward resident, Deborah Cox, considers this an excellent way to add excitement to the game while helping battle cancer. Breast Cancer is the most common cancer among American women with one in eight women affected. The team chose Stand Up To Cancer for the organization’s affiliation with Major League Baseball, as these women are major leaguers at heart!
CAT 5 is comprised of women 50-65 – the team competes in the 50-
54 age category. They are the reigning NC Silver Medalists whose goal is to bring home Gold this year. CAT 5 appreciates the sponsorship support they have received from Carolina Pilates and Blue Restaurant.
