Each year, on Independence Day, the First Ward Community Fund provides lunch for the Team on duty at Fire Station One. This year was no different with a feast provided thanks to the Community Fund and generous donations from Reid’s Fine Foods and Harris Teeter. The Station was open to neighborhood residents for tours.
I spent the afternoon at the station and enjoyed lunch with the group. It is always nice to catch-up with old friends and meet new members of the Team. This will be the last Fourth, at the Station, for one of the Battalion Chiefs as he will be retiring at year’s end. “Chief” sent a big thank you to the neighborhood and he mentioned how pleased he was that we have be doing this for at least eight years. When asked how this tradition came about I explained how we “stole” the idea from Fourth Ward and intend to keep it going for years to come.
The folks at “The One House” are always on duty and we in First Ward appreciate them. Thank you!
