Today a group of us from the Community Fund and First Ward Neighbors, Inc. spent some time with Captain Campagna of CMPD’s Central Division. We dropped-off a supply of Gatorade for the folks who will be on duty on Independence Day and talked First Ward.
We use the visit to catch up with our CMPD friends and discuss the state of crime in First Ward. As usual, our crime numbers are good. Slightly higher than last year but still good. CMPD is doing some innovative things to lower the larceny from auto stats. Their initiatives are showing promise and arrests are up. The bottom line…don’t steal something from a vehicle in our neighborhood because you’re going to be caught. We like that.
The Community Fund, First Ward Neighbors and the Police are pleased with the overall state of things in the neighborhood. We identified a few areas of concern and feel improvement will come. In addition to various crime fighting programs the police will also monitor the stop signs in First Ward. These seem to have become optional for some and we all should expect enforcement to increase.
