School Supplies for First Ward

Today the First Ward Community Fund donated nearly $1,500 in school supplies to sixty-five children living in First Ward.

Thanks to a generous donation from the NATCA Charitable Foundation we were able to supply our young residents with school supplies for the upcoming school year. In addition to these supplies, the High School and Middle School students go back to school with new backpacks.

Several weeks agod, a Case Manager from CHA wrote to say they no longer have money for these types of expenses. Within hours the Community Fund board offered assistance. Organization founder, Bob Szymkiewicz, reached out to NCF and they too moved quickly to help. Money found, supplies purchased and delivered — problem solved.

Board member VK Simpson delivered the supplies on Monday, August 19th, enabling CHA Case Managers to get these out to students in time for class. VK, a Community Coordinator with CMPD, said he was happy to help. ” Education is the key” said Simpson. “These children will succeed if the know others are here to support them.”

The Community Fund wishes to thank Kim and David Lindsey of Vector Shirts for donating the backpacks to NCF.
