The First Ward Community Fund is helping our friends at Carolinas Metro Inc raise money for  their U18 baseball team to attend a tournament in Atlanta. Recruiters from Historically Black Colleges and scouts from Major League Baseball attend this event.

The group is holding a raffle to fund the cost of the trip. We offer thanks to Deborah J. Cox, of Savvy + Company, for generously donating the prize. The raffle winner will receive a pair of tickets to see the Charlotte Bobcats play the 2013 NBA Champion Miami Heat as well as two tickets to four additional Bobcats’ games. Raffle tickets are $2 each or three for $5. Please contact us or Carolina Metro Inc if you would like to purchase raffle tickets.

CMI is more than just a baseball club. “The basis of this organization is to service our youth by providing a safe and professional opportunity to learn and develop their skill in baseball and softball, with extra emphasis on disadvantaged young men and women.  We have staff members that monitor the academic progress of CAROLINAS METRO INC. players and   recommend solutions to their family. We offer a FREE tutorial service, health and wellness training, physical fitness, speed and agility classes.”

The First Ward Community Fund plans to work with Carolinas Metro Inc on a baseball camp in our neighborhood.
