Mayor Foxx talks about the importance of the Neighborhood Watch Program

Charlotte, North Carolina, August 2, 2011: The First Ward Community Fund and Charlotte Housing Authority will host their annual “Party with the Police” as part of the nation-wide National Night Out celebration. National Night Out is an event that brings together communities and Police Departments across the country in an effort to improve relationships and to let criminals know they are not welcome. The party will be held in First Ward in the linear park on East Ninth Street (between North Davidson Street and North Alexander Street) from 6:30pm to 8:00pm

Organizers expect a large turnout again this year. Both children and adults will enjoy ice cream from Buck’s Ice Cream — the truck arrives at 6:45pm. Mayor Anthony Foxx, a First Ward resident, will visit and many community leaders and elected official are expected to stop-by to meet the neighbors. Children will have fun with educational coloring books and can participate in free-throw shooting & jump rope contests.
